How come there are farmers and outdoor workers with Vit D deficiency?
And others get too much sun for safety and still have a Vitamin D deficiency?
This chart needs to be backed that up by pointing out that many Australians actually get too much sun exposure and are STILL Vitamin D deficient. An occasional blood screening may be warranted to check Vitamin D levels.
Many of us, especially a large amount of seniors, need to take Vit D3 supplements. We do not all convert Vit D through the skin in the same way, so charts such as this bear no resemblance at all to how much Vit D we will absorb from sun exposure. This chart might only show how much sun exposure is relatively safe.
This was a world study of cigar smoking done among people who take Vitamin D. It was completed by the FDA. In total 271 Vitamin d users are studied. This just goes to show that the FDA is aware that Vit D absorption varies in different groups of people there is no one guide to how much sun will give you enough Vitamin D that is standard for all people.
The Bureau of Meteorology has shared the chart above and the information saying,
Now that daylight savings has finished and the days are becoming shorter, it's important to know how much sun is enough!
Our friends at SunSmart have a Vitamin D tracker to help give an idea of how much sun you should get: http://bit.ly/ZWXMxw
People need to know that safe sun exposure will not guarantee them enough Vit D.
It is too late to know the sun will not supply the needs to a large proportion of people once your have osteoporosis. Also people should not self medicate Vit D, as excess is toxic. Also, if you are on a silly low fat diet you will not synthesize a fat soluble Vitamin such as Vit D in the first place. Seek the advice of a certified practicing dietician and get your Vitamin D levels checked and take things from there and keep your Vitamin D at a healthy level.
